About the Logging Client

The Logging Client is a Windows app that collects debug and error log files, which you can use for investigation or analysis with Skyhigh Security Service Edge.  It  can also be used to archive Skyhigh Security Service Edge web access data in your network or feed it directly into your reporting and analytics tools.

The Logging Client crawls logs at an interval that you set. Depending on your requirements, you can have logs saved to a folder on your local computer or sent to a syslog server.

The Logging Client is by default installed on your desktop. A configuration page is provided that allows you to configure its settings.

To configure these settings, you must know the following or be sure that it applies:

  • Customer ID. This ID can be found in your welcome email. It is shared by all users on a tenant. Or see Find the Customer ID to Use with the Logging Client
  • Email address and password. Your log-on credentials are used to identify your log files. If you log in to Skyhigh CASB via SAML, meaning you do not have to enter a password, you cannot currently install the Logging Client.
  • Syslog information. If you are planning to use the Logging Client to send logs to a syslog server, you need the client host and port number. The log file sent to the syslog server will be in the .csv format over TCP or UDP.
  • Usage Analytics Users. Your Skyhigh CASB account must have the Usage Analytics Users role.

For more information about how to select the type of log data that is collected, see Select the Log Type to Download with the Logging Client.

Change the Logging Client Settings after the Initial Configuration

To change any of its settings after initially configuring  the Logging Client, you must first uninstall, then reinstall it. Once you have reinstalled it, you can change its settings, then restart the Logging Client to apply your changes.
