Configure Log Data Residency and Privacy

Log data originating from users' access to Secure Web Gateway can be stored in different geographic locations depending on the region where users accessed the product. Configuring this location is also referred to as configuring log data residency. Log data can be stored, for example, for reporting purposes.

Configuring log data residency allows you to comply with existing regulations for data security, which might require that log data originating from a particular region, for example, Europe, must also be stored in this region.

To protect privacy, you can configure that parts of the log data are concealed in the log files.

You can also configure log data residency when configuring locations to ensure web security for them under Secure Web Gateway, see About Configuring Locations. Be aware that the settings you configure there will overrule the settings you configure here.

To configure log data residency and privacy, proceed as follows:

  1. On the user interface for Secure Web Gateway, place your mouse pointer over the settings icon in the top right corner, then select Infrastructure > Web Gateway Setup from the drop-down menus.

  2. Scroll down to Log Data Residency and click Edit.

  3. In the Log Data Residency section of the Log Data Settings page, select a location for each of the regions shown under Region from the Stored in list. For example, select India for the Asia-Pacific region.

The  following locations are available as options for storing log data from a particular region.

    1. North America

    2. Europe
    3. United Kingdom

    4. Singapore

    5. United Arab Emirates

    6. India

    7. Australia

    8. Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

  4. In the Log Privacy Settings section, select the log data fields you want to be concealed when log data is displayed. For example, select User Name.

You have now configured where log data originating from a particular region is stored and which fields are concealed when log data is displayed.
